President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan participated via video conference in the commissioning ceremony of the first turbine of the Ilısu Dam on May 19. The Ilısu Dam is located on the Tigris river in Mardin province.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Erdogan stated, "Türkiye's fourth-largest dam, Ilısu Dam, will contribute USD 412 million to the Turkish economy annually, contribute to the development of the southeast, and is expected to generate 4.1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year."
When finished, Ilısu Dam will have six turbines in total and is predicted to have an investment cost of TL 12 billion.
