Sabah - Türkiye’s second nuclear power plant planned to be built on the Black Sea coast of Sinop has just got another contender: China’s state-owned Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Co., Ltd. (CGNPC). The company officially expressed its interest in the USD 20 billion project, which would become the largest single investment in Türkiye once realized.

One of the leading companies of its field in its country, CGNPC is building 17 nuclear power plants throughout the world with a combined capacity of 40,000 MW. The company also operates a 4,000 MW nuclear plant in China.

As Türkiye seeks an interstate agreement for its nuclear power plant projects, China and Türkiye will directly negotiate on the USD 20 billion project. The Chinese offer to build Türkiye’s second nuclear power plant underlines the confidence in the Turkish economy since Türkiye offers no financial guarantees for the project. Türkiye signed a cooperation deal with Russia to build its first nuclear plant in Akkuyu, Mersin on the Mediterranean coast in 2010.
