Driven by strong domestic demand and increasing exports, Türkiye’s steel industry has been steadily growing since 2005. According to data from the World Steel Association, Türkiye ranked 10th among global crude steel producers in 2010. The sector’s 2011 statistics show that the country’s steel production in the first quarter increased by almost 25 percent over the last year, reaching a total of 7.9 million tons.
