Hurriyet Daily News - Austrian energy company OMV is planning to open an 870-MW gas-fired power plant in the Black Sea province of Samsun. The company will invest EUR 600 million in the plant, which is designed to meet 3 or 4 percent of Türkiye's total electricity demand. The power plant will join the grid in 2012.

Speaking at the power plant's groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, OMV Group CEO Wolfgang Ruttenstorfer, said Türkiye is becoming a junction of energy between Europe and Asia and the country’s energy industry has enormous growth potential. Verbund, OMV's partner in Austria, is also planning to invest in Türkiye's energy distribution sector.
