Hurriyet - Türkiye is a strong candidate for a place on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Executive Board, according to First Deputy Managing Director of the organization, John Lipsky.

“Emerging countries are expected to take leading roles in the governance of the IMF, if an agreement can be reached”, said Lipsky, pointing to Türkiye’s economic growth overshadowing European countries and its status as a regional leader. IMF forecasts show Türkiye reaching a GDP of nearly USD 790 billion in 2011, surpassing the Netherlands.
