The Saudi energy company ACWA, in partnership with Türkiye’s Eser Holding, is set on investing in a natural gas combined cycle power plant in Türkiye’s Central Anatolian province of Kirikkale. The installation of the 800 MW-natural gas combined-cycle power plant, the first overseas energy investment for the Saudi company, will be carried out by Samsung C&T.

The South Korean company will be responsible for engineering, equipment procurement, and construction of the complex to be built at a cost of USD 930 million. The plant will create employment for some 2,000 people when it joins the national grid after the 30-month construction period.

“Samsung C&T is participating in the Kirikkale project as a sponsor and contractor.”, Mehmet Oguz of Samsung C&T Türkiye told members of the press after a visit to Kirikkale Governor, Ali Kolat. Samsung C&T, the construction and trading arm of the South Korean electronics giant, is also selected as the highest bidder for a USD 750 million hospital project in Türkiye’s southeastern Gaziantep province.

Türkiye plans for 100,000 MW of installed capacity in 2023, nearly double that of today’s 53,000 MW.
