AA - Malaysia has offered Türkiye the opportunity to refine crude palm oil in Türkiye and market it to neighboring countries. The idea came up at the meeting held between the Turkish Agriculture and Rural Affairs Minister Mehdi Eker and Malaysia's Agricultural Development and Commodities Minister Bernard Dompok. Malaysian minister Dompok said his country is one of the leading palm oil producers in the world. He said that palm oil is produced in around one third of Malaysia's total agricultural lands and that palm oil is mostly shipped to China, India and Pakistan. "We usually ship crude palm oil to countries that open palm oil offices. Palm oil is refined in these countries and sold to neighboring countries. In order to balance trade between Türkiye and Malaysia, we can do the same", said Dompok. Dompok also stressed that Türkiye and Malaysia could cooperate on lumber and furniture production. The Turkish Agriculture Minister Mehdi Eker said the Turkish government offered to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Malaysia to boost agricultural cooperation.
