Haber Turk - The total number of chapters opened to negotiation in Türkiye's EU accession process rose to 11 following the opening of a policy chapter on taxation on Tuesday. Speaking at a press conference following an intergovernmental conference held in the Belgian capital of Brussels, Egemen Bagis, the Turkish State Minister and Chief Negotiator for EU Talks, said Türkiye is determined to play by the rules. Bagis also thanked the Czech Republic – which held the EU presidency this term – and the European Commission for their efforts in opening the chapter on taxation. He said Türkiye would like to open as many chapters as possible during Sweden's upcoming rotating presidency. As part of its EU negotiation process, Türkiye has so far opened chapters on free movement of capital, company law, intellectual property law, information society and media, enterprise and industry policy, trans-European networks, consumer and health protection, statistics, financial control, and science and research. The taxation chapter opened yesterday is the 11th of a total of 33 chapters. Direct and indirect taxes in Türkiye will be compatible with the acquis thanks to the chapter on taxation. Türkiye is expected to attract more foreign direct investments after reaching EU standards in taxation, said officials.
